THE RECYCLING STATION: A TOTAL DELIGHT

You see a picture of Gina at the recycling center on the outskirts of Munich. We stopped there one day after Gina, Leon, and I stopped for a to visit her mother, who lives in the same house where Gina grew up. It's a house built in the 19th century and I could feel the age in the marvelous wooden floors and window frames, and the low passageways between rooms. Out back was a magical garden, where Gina spent her youth, deep in her imaginative play. As we basked in the sun drinking coffee, suddenly everyone got in the mood to go to the recycling center, and off we went.

Gina was surprised at the number of cars lined up to file through park at the appropriate material station and empty out. The people can recycle any, any, any thing there. While people are unloading their cars the employees are stuffing, breaking glass, sorting and the clinging and clanging is so delightful. I could feel the uninterrupted flow of cycling energy, a delightful feel.

In one big room, is where people bring their treasured and not so treasured objects to lay on the shelves to be claimed by the next person. Objects from furniture all the way to magazines, books, dolls.

Leon and I found two styrofoam water floaters and I just couldn't resist the temptation to have a sword fight with him right outside the shop!

Gina said, "let's stick around a while! Look at all the people coming. There are bound to be some things to pick up. And just moments later, a young woman walked in with a teddy bear, the size of a toddler. I immediately knew I was supposed to have it and followed her to the shelf. A grandmother saw it, at the shelf put her hands on it eagerly and picked it up and brought it to her son..."Look,look, isn't this perfect for my grandson?" And he shook his head,"No". She walked back and handed it to me. I knew I was supposed to have it, just the way I know I'm supposed to have The Jewel Project: the land, the buildings, the stuffed animal making, the permaculture community.

Later I saw a doll come in, with the traditional Bavarian dress and like a magnet, I found myself in front of the grandmother, handing her the doll. The grandmother just melted.
